My last class of the period!!

On Wednesday the 20th   I had my third and last class with Intermediate II.

I entered the class and started by having a little chat with my students, even though I was kind of sick I continued with the development of the class. I began with a warm up activity as I always do. This time; I asked my students to come to the front and take a piece of paper and a pen with them. Then they formed a circle, I explained to them that they were to write in each classmate´s back and that I was to dictate some sentences(related with the topic I was to teach) so while I was dictating they had to be going around in a circle. It was really fun because they could barely write as they were moving but I could notice they enjoy that activity.

After that I moved to the presentation part; I introduced the topic by presenting a family tree, then I asked for vocabulary about family members and students started to mention the ones they knew already. That part went pretty fine, and I think the rest of the class went well as well, I gave some fill in the blank practice, and they also were asked to write sentences about what they have been studying. Something I consider I need to improve is to be “present” in the whole class; I mean to monitor students in every moment of my class, I think sometimes I do not monitor them as I should. So I would appreciate if you share with me some tips on how to control or to keep an eye in all my students. The teacher mentioned that part because while I was pasting some charts on the board some students were talking to each other, so I would like to know, what things should I do while I am pasting visuals aids on my class?

Summing up, I can say my teaching experience has been good up to know because I am gaining more confident when being in front of a class.

Waiting for your comments guys…

2nd T E

Thursday, Feb 14th, 2013

On my second teaching experience, I was afraid of teaching because I had to teach adjectives (Comparatives and Superlatives form) and I did not have too much time to prepare my class, besides, I did not know what activities to develop in my class, so I decided to look for a song containing adjectives so that I could play it and have students fill in the blanks with the missing words (adjectives).

That part went really nice students liked the song and so did I. The hardest part came when I got to the grammar part; I explained the rules we use for comparatives and superlatives to the students, but I did not feel that confident when doing so. I even hesitated a couple of times when talking about the exceptions or the irregular adjectives we have, may be that happened because I was thinking of the possibility that students could ask about certain adjectives and I would not have answered in a correct way. On the other hand, I always like the fact that students do work when I give the exercises to them, they work in the time I ask them to and when I want someone to participate they do it.

I could say that my previous class was better than this one I just taught.

So tell me teachers, which activities would you use to teach comparatives and superlatives adjectives?

Suggestions will be very welcome!!

MY FIRST CLASS…

On Tuesday 5th, I  had my first teaching experience with Intermediate II, at first I felt kind of nervous because there are many students in that section but then I started my class with a warm up activity and as time was passing  I started feeling more confident as I began to interact with my students. Students also started to participate when I asked something, that made me think that they were somehow interested in what I was explaining. So I key point that helped me relieve was the action of maintaining students ´attention and I also tried to keep them interested all the time. I introduced my topic by talking about sports, and as students love sports, I tried to active their schema by asking them about their favorite sports because when they like something, that something makes them participate and share their ideas in a more confident way.

Likewise, in the grammar notes I implemented what the teacher told us, I mean I did not give a large explanation of the topic being study, as I was teaching the PAST PARTICIPLE, I starting by asking them what they remembered about it. And so they started giving me examples, as this topic was more a review I did not teach a deep explanation, instead with students´ help, we all tried to come up with the usage of this tense. So at the end I gave the pattern they use to form sentences with the past participle.

So, at the end I liked it very much because students did participate in all the activities I developed.
