To continue with our teaching process, I want to share with you guys my experience. On my second time teaching this group, the teacher asked me to make a review of the simple past as I was going to finish the lesson. So, I started the class and had a talking time with my students, then I developed a warm up activity, by the way, I did one that I´ve done before, I had students in a circle and they were going to write on their classmates ´back and at the same time they had to be turning, so I dictated some sentences in the past and after that we checked those sentences, I could see students enjoyed, likewise they were practicing the topic being studied.
This time, I brought a new word for students to broad their vocabulary, and give an example using the new word, and as a presentation I had a conversation, and I asked students to come to the front and performed it but they were to choose a paper and act the conversation according to the action they got, for instance, jumping, crying, and so forth; they really liked it and it was very funny, though some students did not want to participate.
After that, I just gave some explanation when making yes-no questions in the past and also about the negative form, I wrote some examples on the board and then I had students practicing, they work on a photocopy drill in which they had to make the sentences negative, then the whole class shared.
On the next activity, I pasted a chart on the board that contained some questions and students had to choose the correct form of the verb, and later they had to give an answer for the questions. At the end, I had I dictation practice as they are having evaluations next week I decided to include this activity.
Thank God students participated even though we were recording the class.

Hello ya!!!
ReplyDeleteThis was a nice class as far as I can see.
There are always Ss that don't really like to participate; it doesn't matter the type of activity you develop, but specially on activities like your warm up. We have to encorage them because they are taking this major to become teachers....and you already know what a teacher's job means....you have to play a lot of roles in front of your Ss.
It is good to notice that you are helping them to get more vocabulary!
Nice class girl!
Hello Mary!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that the activity that you did as a warm up is one that always function with your students because they practice grammar and vocabulary while they are having fun!
When you are teaching basic level some students do not want to participate in some activities because they are afraid to make mistakes most of the time; However, I think that you gave confidence to them, so I think it was a nice class.
CONGRATULATIONS MARY!
Hello Mary...
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Marvin. Most of the times students seem reluctant to participate in any activity you plan, but as he says we have to encourage them and put our best face in those situations.
Sometimes this issues make us feel non motivated towards certain group, but we have to take it as a learning experience that will make us grow in the teaching field.
I know you did your best Mary.
congrats
Nice Mary, it seems you did a great job with basic students, and especially with basic learnes you have to be carefull when teaching grammar because you may confuse them if you try to explain with annoying patterns and things like that, therfore they avoid participation being afraid to make any mistake. Great job Mary!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Mary!! I see this as a simple but great way to develop this class. Not everything vcn be perfect, this time some of the students did not collaborate you. I think we as teachers must give as much confidence as possible; nonetheles, we need SS collaboration but that is own their own once that we have encouraged them and strived make the class be nice.Anyways, I think you did well as you always tried. Keep working my friend!!
